Hi, my name is Marat. I live in Thailand, and recently I traveled to Krabi. During this trip, I managed to visit quite a few amazing places, and in this article I want to share them with you — so you can enjoy them just as much as I did.

Din Daeng Doi Viewpoint

📍 Location

💰 Entrance fee: 70 THB per person

I visited several viewpoints in Krabi, but Din Daeng Doi was my favorite. From here you get a stunning 360° panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.

Most people come here to watch the sunrise around 6:00 AM. I wasn’t motivated enough to wake up that early and drive in the dark, so I arrived around 2:00 PM — and it was still totally worth it.

From the parking area, there’s a short hike to the top of the hill. It’s not difficult, but if you’re walking in the heat, it’s a good idea to bring sun protection.

At the end of the hike, you’ll find a small café at the top. We ordered coffee and juice there, and everything was surprisingly good. They also serve simple meals at very reasonable prices, so you can relax, enjoy the view and grab a bite after the climb.

Railay Beach

In my opinion, Railay Beach is the most popular place in Krabi. The reason is simple: this is where you’ll find Phra Nang Beach, the most beautiful beach in the area, and it’s also the main hub for rock climbing.

Krabi is famous for its dramatic limestone cliffs, and people from all over the world come here to climb them. Near Railay Beach, you’ll find a climbing shop and a climbing school, where you can rent equipment or join guided climbing sessions.

Another lively spot here is the local Walking Street, filled with bars and cafés. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and most of the crowd is international travelers.

Overall, Railay is a great place to stay for a few nights. The peninsula has all the basic infrastructure you might need: pharmacies, small shops, laundries, and ATMs. There’s also plenty to do, including rock climbing, hiking, cave visits, and kayaking.

✅ Here are some of the best hotels on the Railay peninsula:

You can reach Railay Beach by boat from Ao Nang Beach. The ride costs 100 THB one way and takes about 10 minutes.

I also have a separate guide to the beaches in Krabi where I share the best ones — and which ones you can safely skip.

Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea)

📍 Location

💰 Entrance: free, but you can buy a voluntary ticket for 50 THB

Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea)
A temple at the foot of the mountain.

Tiger Cave Temple, also known as Wat Tham Suea, is a great place to test your endurance.

To reach the temple viewpoint, you need to climb 1,260 steps. Each step is about 20 cm high on average, so the climb can be quite challenging — especially if you try to go up without taking breaks. But the effort is worth it.

At the top, you’ll get an incredible view of Krabi’s limestone cliffs, endless palm groves, and the river flowing into the sea near Krabi Town.

These two things are exactly what I loved most about Krabi: the dramatic limestone mountains and the huge number of palm trees everywhere.

By the way, when I visited, there was a large box filled with ice and free drinking water at the start of the climb, which was a nice and very welcome touch before tackling all those steps.

Elephant Sanctuary

📍 Location

Another thing Krabi is famous for is its large number of elephant sanctuaries. In these places, elephants are not kept for tourist entertainment. Instead, they are cared for properly, and visitors can take part in that care.

For example, at the sanctuary linked above, you can feed the elephants for free twice a day. There’s also a half-day program for 2,900 THB, where visitors can walk with the elephants and bathe with them in their natural environment.

You need to book this experience at least two days in advance through their website.

And importantly — there is no elephant riding allowed.

Ngon Nak Hiking Trail (Dragon Crest)

📍 Location

💰 Entrance fee: 200 THB

Ngon Nak Hiking Trail (Dragon Crest)

This trail is one of the most popular hiking routes in Krabi. It’s also known as Dragon Crest and is located inside Hat Noppharat Thara – Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, which is why there’s an entrance fee. For foreigners, it’s 200 THB.

Although the signs in the park and the official map say the round-trip distance is 7 km, don’t rely on that too much. Our tracker showed around 13–14 km in total. Plan about 4–5 hours to complete the hike comfortably.

At the top, you’ll be rewarded with incredible views of the sea, mountains, and jungle.

I recommend bringing plenty of water and maybe even a small breakfast or snack. There are several great spots at the summit where you can sit down, eat, and enjoy the view.

Dragon View Bar & Restaurant

📍 Location

Dragon View Bar & Restaurant is a great spot to watch the sunset in Krabi while enjoying live music. The food and drinks were delicious, and the prices were quite reasonable for a place with such a view.

It’s best to arrive around 5:00 PM with your own transport so you can grab a good table before sunset. Alternatively, you can call ahead and reserve a table in advance.

Klong Root Canal

📍 Location

💰 Price: 300 THB for a two-person kayak

There are two main activities at this spot.

  1. The first one is mostly for kids — a wide natural water slide where water flows down a smooth channel. When I visited on a Sunday, the place was full of local families with children. Kids are given special anti-slip socks so they don’t fall while sliding down. It actually looked like a lot of fun.
  2. The second activity is for everyone: you can rent a two-person kayak for 300 THB and explore the canal.

Personally, kayaking here wasn’t my favorite experience because the kayak kept scraping the tree roots under the water. But the water itself is incredibly blue and crystal clear, which makes the place very beautiful.

By the way, at first they may offer you a 600 THB package that includes coconuts, water, and some other unnecessary extras. You can simply say that you only want the kayak.

Phi Phi Islands

📍 Location

The Phi Phi Islands are located in Krabi Province and consist of two main islands:

  • Phi Phi Don — the larger island with hotels, restaurants, and all the tourist infrastructure.
  • Phi Phi Leh — a smaller island that’s home to the famous Maya Bay, where the movie The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed.

You’ve probably already visited Phi Phi from Phuket, so there’s no need to go into too much detail about the islands themselves. Still, I’ll include the boat schedule from Krabi just in case.

You can buy tickets at almost any tourist kiosk in Krabi — there are plenty of them around the main tourist areas.

Hong Island

📍 Location

There are also tours to Hong Island from Phuket. I visited it as part of a James Bond Island tour, but from Krabi it’s much closer, so it’s easy to get there on your own.

The best option is to rent a private longtail boat:

  • 2,500 THB — up to 2 people
  • 3,000 THB — up to 6 people
  • 3,500 THB — up to 8 people

You can depart either from Ao Nang Beach or Klong Muang Beach.

Two of the most interesting spots on Hong Island are the viewpoint and the lagoon, both of which are definitely worth visiting.

Khao Phanom Bencha National Park

📍 Location

💰 Entrance fee: 200 THB, motorbike parking 20 THB

Khao Phanom Bencha National Park is a beautiful place where you can walk through the jungle to waterfalls and go for a swim. Along the way, you’ll enjoy lush nature, the sound of cicadas, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a chameleon.

Important: the waterfalls are most impressive during the rainy season, from August to November.

Since the trail goes through the jungle, it’s best to wear closed shoes so that leeches don’t attach to your legs.
