What Is the C1 Visa?

The C1 visa is a tourist visa that allows you to stay in Indonesia for 60 days, with the option to extend it twice for an additional 60 days each time. In total, this means you can legally remain in the country for up to 180 days without leaving.
๐ Before 2023, this visa was known as B211A. The Indonesian visa classification system was updated, and the B211A visa was officially renamed to C1.

Now let’s break down each point in more detail.
How Long Can You Stay in Indonesia with a C1 Visa?
With a C1 visa, you can stay in Indonesia for up to 180 days in total, which is significantly longer than the 60 days allowed with an Indonesian eVOA visa.
The visa is initially issued for 60 days, and you can extend it twice — each extension gives you another 60 days.
Important: The first 60 days start counting from the date you enter Indonesia, not from the date the visa is approved.
If you want to stay in the country longer, you have three options:
- Leave Indonesia, apply for a new C1 visa, and re-enter — in other words, do a visa run.
- Leave Indonesia and apply for a D12 visa.
- Stay in Indonesia and apply for a KITAS residence permit.
How to Apply for a C1 Visa

The C1 visa application process is fully online. You submit everything through the official immigration website (evisa.imigrasi.go.id), and once approved, the e-visa is sent to your email and appears in your account dashboard on the same site.
๐ Required Documents
To apply, you’ll need:
- Passport valid for at least 6 months on the date of entry into Indonesia
- Bank statement for the last 3 months showing a minimum balance of $2,000 USD (or equivalent in another currency)
- Recent color photo (a smartphone photo is acceptable)
๐ป Step-by-Step Application Process
Time needed: 20 minutes
- Register on the official immigration website
Create an account at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. You’ll use this account later to extend your visa or apply for other visa types.
- Select the C1 visa
Go to Services → Apply and choose the C1 visa from the list of available visas.
- Complete the application form
Upload your photo, a scan or photo of your passport, and your bank statement. Then fill in your personal details and provide your address in Indonesia (for example, your hotel or villa in Bali).
- Pay the government fee
You’ll need 1,024,000 IDR available on your card to complete the payment and submit the application.

โ Applying Through an Agency
If you can’t provide a bank statement or prefer not to handle the process yourself, you can apply through a trusted visa agency like Bali Love.
Their price for the visa is 2.8 million IDR. Extensions are also handled online, without visiting the immigration office.
They offer a 10% discount with the promo code “Marat Nomad.”
๐ How to Check Your Application Status
You’ll receive an email with the result of your application at the address you used to register on evisa.imigrasi.go.id.
You can also check the status directly in your personal account on the same website.
โ You don’t need to print your e-visa for passport control — a screenshot on your phone is enough. However, immigration officers often ask for a return or onward ticket. If you don’t have one, it’s a good idea to arrange a temporary booking in advance (for example, through Kupitrip).
C1 Visa Cost

If you apply on your own through the official website, the total cost of the C1 visa is 1,024,000 IDR, which includes:
- 1,000,000 IDR — government visa fee
- 24,000 IDR — transaction processing (service) fee
โ๏ธ If your application is rejected, the fee is non-refundable.
What You Can and Can’t Do on a C1 Visa
โ What You’re Allowed to Do:
- Take part in tourism-related activities or visit friends and family.
- Attend events, exhibitions, and seminars as a participant.
- Convert your visa to another type of visa or apply for a temporary residence permit (KITAS), if eligible.
โ What You’re Not Allowed to Do:
- Engage in any activity that generates income inside Indonesia.
(In practice, remote work is not an issue. Problems are more likely to arise for photographers or freelancers who physically work with clients inside the country.) - Participate in events as a speaker or presenter.

How to Extend a C1 Visa
The extension process depends on how you originally applied for your visa.
1๏ธโฃ Applied on Your Own → Extend on Your Own
Log in to your account at evisa.imigrasi.go.id and:
- Upload a recent bank statement showing a balance of at least $2,000.
- Upload a return or onward ticket from Indonesia dated within the next 60 days.
- Pay the extension fee of 1,024,000 IDR.
After submitting the documents, you’ll need to visit a local immigration office for a photo and biometric capture.
The extension approval is usually sent to your email within about 14 days.
2๏ธโฃ Applied Yourself (or via Agent) → Extend Through an Agent
You contact a visa agency (for example, Bali Love), pay 2,500,000 IDR, and temporarily hand over your passport.
In this case, you don’t need to visit the immigration office yourself. The extension result is also sent by email in about 14 days.
โ๏ธ Important: What If Your 60 Days Expire During Processing?
If you submit your extension application before your current 60-day period ends, you won’t be considered overstaying — even if the approval comes later. That said, to minimize any risks, it’s best to apply for an extension at least two weeks before your visa expires.
