Piers on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan

Several piers on Koh Samui offer ferries to Koh Phangan:
- Pralarn Pier – Located in the north of the island
- Bangrak Pier and Big Buddha Pier – In the northeast
- Nathon Pier and Lipa Noi Pier – On the west coast
On Koh Phangan, boats from Samui arrive at one of these three piers:
- Thong Sala Pier – The island’s main pier
- Haad Rin Pier – Close to the beach where the Full Moon Party is held
- Ban Tai Pier – Between Thong Sala and Haad Rin

💡 Tip: On the boat, you might be offered a transfer on Koh Phangan for 150 THB per person — take it. It’s cheaper than finding a taxi on your own. Ride-hailing apps don’t work on the island, and local drivers often charge 200 THB per person. You can also book a ferry ticket with a transfer in advance on 12Go Asia, but not all operators offer this option.
How to Transport a Car from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan
Currently, there are no direct car ferries between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. The only option is to first drive to the mainland port of Donsak, then take a separate ferry to Koh Phangan. It’s a bit of a hassle, but if you want to bring your own car, it’s doable.
You can take a car ferry to Donsak with either of two companies (both offer the same prices):
- Raja Ferry – departs from Lipa Noi Pier
- Seatran Ferry – departs from Nathon Pier
Koh Samui → Donsak:
- Car with driver – 550 THB
- Additional passenger – 170 THB
- Child (100–120 cm) – 85 THB
Donsak → Koh Phangan:
- Car with driver – 760 THB
- Additional passenger – 240 THB
- Child (100–120 cm) – 120 THB

💡 Final Tip: Bringing your car to Koh Phangan only makes sense if you’re staying for at least a week. For shorter visits, it’s cheaper and easier to travel light and rent a car on the island. For example, I was offered a car here in Phangan for just 1,000 THB per day.
How to Transport a Motorbike from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan
You can transport a motorbike either the same way as a car (via Donsak) or directly from Big Buddha Pier on Koh Samui. Ferries from Big Buddha go to Haad Rin Pier on Koh Phangan twice a day:
- Departure at 10:30 → Arrival at 11:20
- Departure at 17:00 → Arrival at 17:50
