Location and How to Get There

💰 Entrance fee: Free
Lumphini Park is located in the heart of Bangkok, surrounded by office towers, luxury hotels, and some of the city’s busiest business districts.
Getting to the park is easy. You can use public transportation (MRT subway or taxi) or drive your own car or motorbike, as there are several parking areas available.
By MRT

The easiest way to reach Lumphini Park is via Bangkok’s MRT Blue Line. There are two stations next to the park: Lumphini and Si Lom.
Because of its name, you might assume that Lumphini Station is the main station for the park. However, that’s not actually the most convenient option. If you get off at Lumphini Station, you’ll need to cross several roads before reaching the park.
A better choice is Si Lom Station, whose exit leads directly to Entrance No. 4 on the park’s southwestern side.
If you’re staying near a BTS Skytrain station, you can travel to Phloen Chit or Chit Lom and then take a motorbike taxi. From there, it’s a quick ride to the park’s main entrance (Entrance No. 1).
By Car or Motorbike

There are two parking areas near the park:
- Entrance No. 5 — fewer parking spaces are available, and the motorbike parking area often becomes flooded after heavy rain.
- Entrance No. 1 — offers more parking spaces and generally remains accessible even after rainfall. This is the parking area I recommend.
Park Entrances
Lumphini Park has nine entrances. Eight of them are standard gates, while the ninth is an elevated walkway connecting Lumphini Park with Benchakitti Park.
All entrances are marked on the map below.
Opening Hours

Lumphini Park is open daily from 4:30 AM to 10:00 PM.
The park is busiest early in the morning and again around sunset. Most visitors come here to jog, walk, cycle, or use the outdoor fitness areas.
💡 Interesting fact: Lumphini was Bangkok’s first public park. When it originally opened, this area was considered the outskirts of the city. Today, the land surrounding the park is the most valuable real estate in the city.
Best Hotels Near Lumphini Park
If you’d like to stay within walking distance of the park, here are some excellent options:
- LUXX Lang Suan — stylish boutique hotel with a pleasant, modern design.
- Dusit Thani Bangkok — offers one of the best views of Lumphini Park.
- Urbana Sathorn — spacious serviced apartments, ideal for longer stays.
- AT EASE Saladaeng — a comfortable option with bathtubs in selected rooms.
- Andaz One Bangkok — one of Bangkok’s newest luxury hotels with impressive park views.
- SO/ Bangkok — a design-focused hotel with unique rooms and panoramic views of the park.
- Baan K Residence — no park view, but more affordable and very close to the park.
- Pinnacle Lumpinee Park Hotel — a budget-friendly option located about a 10-minute walk from the park.
Park Rules: What’s Not Allowed

To keep Lumphini Park clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone, several activities are prohibited:
- No pets allowed in the main park area.
- No smoking.
- No alcohol consumption.
- No drone flights.
- No feeding birds.
- Cycling is only permitted between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
If you’re visiting with a dog, there is a dedicated area called BMA Dog Park. It’s relatively small, but it has a water hose and shower area where you can rinse off your dog after a muddy walk, especially during the rainy season.

Facilities

Lumphini Park is well-equipped for visitors. You’ll find plenty of benches, picnic areas, several kiosks selling ice cream, drinks, and snacks, as well as free public restrooms.
The restroom near Entrance No. 1 even includes lockers and shower facilities. It’s a convenient option if you’ve been exercising and want to freshen up before continuing your day.

There used to be a large food court inside the park with numerous food vendors. Today, only one or two stalls remain open, while most have closed down. However, there’s a full-sized food court just outside Entrance No. 5, where you can enjoy affordable Thai food. Many office workers from the surrounding business district come there for lunch, which is usually a good sign.

One feature I particularly like is the free drinking water station inside the park. So far, I haven’t seen anything similar in other parks around Bangkok.

Things to Do in Lumphini Park
Lumphini Park offers plenty of outdoor activities for both adults and children. Whether you’re looking for exercise, relaxation, or wildlife spotting, you’ll find something to enjoy here.
Watch the Monitor Lizards

Monitor lizards can be found in various parts of Bangkok, as the city’s many canals provide an ideal natural habitat for them. I’ve already written about some of the best places to see monitor lizards in Bangkok, but Lumphini Park is by far the most popular spot.
There are plenty of them here, and they seem completely unfazed by people.
You don’t need to be afraid of them either — you’re not part of their food chain… as long as you’re still alive. 😄 In reality, monitor lizards are primarily scavengers and generally avoid human interaction.

Over the years, I’ve seen these impressive reptiles swimming across ponds, wandering through the grass, hunting fish, and simply basking in the sun. Some are quite small, while others are true giants that can weigh up to 50 kg (110 lbs).
If you’re visiting Lumphini Park for the first time, spotting a monitor lizard will probably be one of the highlights of your trip.
Ride a Bicycle

Lumphini Park has dedicated cycling lanes that loop around the park. They aren’t quite as good as the cycling tracks in Rot Fai Park, as pedestrians occasionally wander onto them. Fortunately, the paths are wide enough that it’s usually easy to ride around people without any issues.
To rent a bike, you’ll need to download the AnyWheel app, one of Bangkok’s most popular bike-sharing services. I use it myself, and it works well. The rental cost is just 10 baht for 30 minutes, making it one of the cheapest ways to explore the park.

You’ll usually find the largest number of available bikes near Entrances No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5.
Go for a Run

Lumphini Park is one of Bangkok’s most popular places for jogging, especially in the early morning and around sunset. Locals, expats, and tourists all come here to run.
I’ve often seen people take motorbike taxis from other parts of the city just to do their workout in Lumphini Park. The atmosphere, scenery, and well-maintained paths make it one of the best running spots in Bangkok.
🚿 And if you’re drenched in sweat after your run, remember that the restroom near Entrance No. 1 has shower facilities, so you can clean up before heading off to your next destination.
Work Out at the Outdoor Gym

Lumphini Park is home to one of the best outdoor gyms in Bangkok. Of course, it’s not the place for serious strength training or progressive overload, but it’s perfect for staying active and maintaining your fitness while traveling.
The gym is surprisingly well-equipped, with dumbbells, bench press stations, cable machines, and even squat racks.
And here’s the best part: it’s completely free to use. 😊 One more reason why I love Bangkok.
Try the Calisthenics and Workout Areas

In addition to the outdoor gym, Lumphini Park has several workout zones equipped with pull-up bars, parallel bars, and stall bars. I’ve seen some strong athletes training there, so these areas are suitable for both beginners and experienced calisthenics enthusiasts.
Speaking of the park, here’s a story that says a lot about the people who visit it. One day, I accidentally left a case containing my microphones on a bench in Lumphini Park. I had already accepted that it was probably gone for good, but decided to check with the park security office anyway.
To my surprise, nobody had stolen it. Someone had found the case and handed it over to the security staff. Pretty cool, right?
Sports Facilities

Lumphini Park offers much more than running and cycling. The park also features basketball courts, badminton courts, tennis courts, a 25-meter swimming pool, and an air-conditioned indoor gym.
The easiest way to access these facilities is by purchasing a membership with the Culture, Sports, and Tourism Department (CSTD).
To register, download the BKK Active app, visit any CSTD sports center with your passport (there are around 40 locations across Bangkok, including one in Lumphini Park), and pay the membership fee. For foreigners, membership costs just 300 baht per year.
Once registered, you can reserve courts and facilities through the app and arrive at your scheduled time. Alternatively, you can simply show up and hope the facility you want is available.
The basketball court and table tennis tables are free to use, while the other facilities require an additional fee.
| Activity | Price | Opening Hours |

Ride a Pedal Boat or Kayak

Every day from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM, visitors can enjoy free rides on the park’s lake using pedal boats or kayaks.
In my opinion, it’s one of the best free activities in Lumphini Park — and a great idea for a casual date.
Take a Walk and Enjoy the Scenery
One of the reasons I keep coming back to Lumphini Park is that it feels like a true green oasis in the middle of Bangkok.

The park is filled with large trees, shaded pathways, and picturesque lakes lined with palm trees. Boats drift across the water, fountains spray into the air, and the entire atmosphere feels calm and surprisingly peaceful for a location in the heart of a city of more than 10 million people.
Part of the park’s charm comes from its historic structures, including a small chapel, a Chinese pavilion, and other architectural details that blend naturally into the landscape.

What makes the scenery even more special is the contrast. While you’re surrounded by nature, modern skyscrapers tower above the treetops in every direction. It’s a striking reminder that you’re still in the center of Bangkok, even though it hardly feels that way.
Visit the Library

📍 Location
Opening Hours:
- Monday: Closed
- Tuesday–Saturday: 8:30 AM–7:30 PM
- Sunday: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Many visitors don’t realize that Lumphini Park is home to a free public library that has been serving the community since 1955.
The library offers books in both Thai and English. Thanks to the air conditioning, it’s also a great place to cool down after a walk around the park. Visitors can use the free Wi-Fi, relax in a quiet environment, or spend some time reading and working.

There are plenty of tables, chairs, and power outlets available, making it a convenient spot for digital nomads, students, and anyone who needs a peaceful workspace.

Another interesting feature is that the main library provides access to a separate children’s library, which younger visitors will likely enjoy.
Visit the Playground

📍 Location
If you’re visiting Lumphini Park with kids, there’s a dedicated playground equipped with slides, swings, and soft sand flooring.
Next to the playground, you’ll find a specially designed area with a cushioned surface where children can safely ride bicycles, scooters, or skateboards.

Explore the Nearby Parks
One of the best things about Lumphini Park is that it’s directly connected to Benchakitti Park by an elevated skywalk stretching approximately 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles).
This means you can easily explore two parks during a single visit. The walkway itself is enjoyable, offering elevated views of the city, green spaces, and the surrounding skyline along the way.
