Location and How to Get There

π Location on the map
π° Entrance: free
Rot Fai Park is located next to the Mo Chit Bus Terminal and Bangkok’s main railway station, Krung Thep Aphivat Central Terminal.
The park has a large parking area, so it’s convenient to arrive by your own car or motorbike. You can also get there by public transport to Chatuchak Park and walk through it to reach Rot Fai Park.
By BTS or MRT
You can easily reach the park using either of the two metro lines:
- MRT (Blue Line) — Chatuchak Park Station
- BTS (Green Line) — Mo Chit Station
After exiting the metro, the path to Rot Fai Park goes through Chatuchak Park. This means you can visit several parks in one trip.
Another option is to arrive at Ha Yaek Lat Phrao Station or Phahon Yothin Station, then walk to the north-eastern entrance of Rot Fai Park using the pedestrian overpass.
By car or motorbike

A spacious parking area for cars and motorbikes is located in the northern part of the park. Set your route specifically to this entrance.
Park entrances
Rot Fai Park has 7 entrances, two of which connect it with Queen Sirikit Park. All park entrances can be seen on the map below.
Opening Hours
Rot Fai Park is open every day from 04:30 to 21:00.
The park is busiest in the early morning and closer to sunset, when the weather is not as hot.
π‘ Interesting fact: The land where the park is located previously belonged to the State Railway of Thailand. Golf courses used to be here. This is why locals call the park “Rot Fai,” which translates from Thai as “railway.”
The park’s official name is Wachirabenchathat Park. It’s quite long, so in everyday speech people still use the name Rot Fai.
What Is Not Allowed in the Park
- Walking pets
- Smoking
- Drinking alcohol
- Gambling
There is a separate designated area for walking pets — Pet Park, which is open from 05:00 to 21:00. It has plenty of space for dogs to run, as well as various obstacles and ramps.
Facilities
Rot Fai Park has free toilets, plenty of benches, picnic areas, and long walking paths.

Near the parking area, there are several cafés, including Café Amazon, as well as a restaurant located directly inside the park. Nearby, you’ll also find small Thai food places where you can have lunch and buy cold drinks.
Things to Do in the Park
Rot Fai Park offers plenty of active leisure options for both children and adults.
Cycling

Rot Fai Park is one of the best places in Bangkok for cycling. A bike path of about 3 km runs around the perimeter of the park and almost never intersects with pedestrian areas.
Rot Fai Park bike rental is available on the northern side of the park, near the parking area.
- Price: from 40 THB for 3 hours
- Rental hours: 06:00–19:00
- Deposit: an ID is required — Thai driving licenses are accepted (I’ve written about how to get one here).
There are also bike parking areas inside the park in case you want to stop and walk around.
π΄ If you’re interested in cycling as a sport and want to avoid slow riders, I recommend the Happy & Healthy Bike Lane — a 23-km loop around Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Jogging

Rot Fai Park is one of the most popular parks in Bangkok for jogging. One lap is about 3 km. Most runners come early in the morning or closer to sunset, when it’s not as hot.
π An interesting moment: at 08:00 and 18:00, the Thai national anthem is played in the park. At this time, local runners stop and wait until the anthem finishes.
Photo Hunting

There are many spots in the park where you can photograph birds, squirrels, and monitor lizards. I’ve often seen people here with large cameras.
Feeding Squirrels

Many different species of squirrels live in the park. They jump from branch to branch and often come down to the ground. Squirrels love peanuts, so you can bring some with you and feed them.
Visit the Education Center

In the north-western part of Rot Fai Park, there is an education center with water flowing down its walls. Inside, you can learn about Bangkok’s ecology and how the city authorities are working to improve it. The center also presents city statistics, such as the greenest area, the most densely populated district, and more.
Opening hours:
- Mon: closed
- Tue–Sat: 08:30–16:30
- Sun: 09:00–17:00
Feed the Fish
Near the education center, there are ponds with many large fish that you can feed. Fish can also be seen in the central lakes of the park, where visitors ride pedal boats.
Ride a Pedal Boat or Kayak

Every day from 15:00 to 18:00, you can ride a pedal boat or kayak for free on the lake in the park. A fun idea for a date.
Play Petanque

Near the eastern entrance of Rot Fai Park, there is a court for playing petanque. This is a game where you throw a metal ball and try to get it as close as possible to a small wooden ball called the cochonnet.
Petanque is popular among older people not only in Thailand, but also in Vietnam and other Asian countries. The game was introduced here by the French.
Sports Courts

The park has basketball, volleyball, football, and tennis courts. To use them, you need to purchase a membership. For foreigners, it costs 300 THB per year. After that, you can book courts and come to play.
The booking app is now called BKK Active (it used to be called CSTD).
Gym

Using the same BKK Active app, you can also pay for gym sessions — 50 THB per hour. However, like many gyms at sports complexes, the quality here leaves much to be desired.
Listen to Live Music

On weekends, musicians come to the park. You can simply sit on the grass and enjoy live music. The last time, for example, there was jazz and dancing by a local dance club.
Group Aerobics

At 17:00, the park hosts a group aerobics session. Anyone can join and do a workout to energetic music. The instructor stands on a raised platform and demonstrates the movements.
Playground

There are several playgrounds in Rot Fai Park with slides and swings. These areas are located away from the main paths, so children don’t disturb other visitors, and adults don’t get in the way of kids.
Children’s Traffic Simulator

π Location
Next to one of the playgrounds, there is a children’s traffic simulator called White Road Theme Park by Toyota. Here, kids learn traffic rules in a playful way, get familiar with road signs, and can practice their knowledge by riding bicycles.

- Sat–Sun: 09:00–17:00
Visit the Butterfly Garden

π Location
Opening hours:
- Mon: closed
- Tue–Sun: 08:30–16:30
In Rot Fai Park, there is a separate building filled with flowers where butterflies live. There aren’t as many butterflies as you might expect from the name “butterfly garden.” For example, I expected to see hundreds of butterflies around me, but in reality, if you’re lucky, you might spot around ten.
Still, there are some interesting species that are fun to watch.
Visit Nearby Parks
Rot Fai Park is connected to two other parks — Queen Sirikit Park and Chatuchak Park. Together, they form the largest park complex in Bangkok.
You can easily come here for the whole day: the area is truly large, and nearby there are cafés and local food places, so you won’t go hungry.
