❗️Update: The visa run (or border run) to Cambodia is temporarily unavailable due to diplomatic tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. However, the same company now offers a visa run from Phuket to Malaysia and Myanmar, starting from 4,300 THB. I’ve included their contact details below.

Visa Run Cost

The visa run from Bangkok to Cambodia costs 3,800 THB. This price includes:

  • Round-trip transportation by minivan
  • Cambodian visa ($30)
  • Border assistance (visa processing and help with filling out the TDAC form)
  • Lunch and a bottle of water at a Thai cafe near the border

There were no additional fees — even the border officers didn’t ask for bribes.

How Long Does the Visa Run Take?

The entire process takes about 10 hours:

  • 04:30 – Departure from Bangkok
  • 14:30 – Return to Bangkok

Crossing the border both ways took about 1 hour total.

Seating is open — feel free to sit wherever you like.

Payment

You can either pay in cash on the spot or prepay via Thai QR code to the organizer.

04:30 – Departure

The van departs for the Cambodian border. One stop is planned along the way.

06:50 – Rest Stop

A 20-minute break at a gas station. You can use the toilet, grab coffee at Café Amazon, or buy snacks at the convenience store. Most food stalls are closed, but grilled meat skewers are usually available. Before getting back on the van, staff handed out group badges — mine was number 6, but I saw others with different numbers at the border.A 20-minute break at a gas station during border run from BKK to Cambodia

08:50 – Arrival at the Border

The border crossing is at Ban Laem checkpoint. The line moves quickly, but it’s noisy due to truck traffic and bustling locals. Border officers will check your passport. Then, a staff member collects passports for Cambodian visa processing, while another helps you fill out the TDAC. Afterwards, you’ll cross the bridge into Cambodia. First, go to the arrival window, then directly to the departure window, and finally walk back into Thailand.Ban Laem checkpoint

09:50 – Re-entry into Thailand

You’ll return via the same bridge and go to the arrival window. There, you’ll receive a 60-day stamp — and just like that, you’re back in Thailand.+ 60 days in Thailand

Lunch

The driver will direct you to a local café. You’ll get a 0.5L bottle of water and can choose any Thai dish from the menu. The food is tasty, though portions are modest — but it’s included in the price of the visa run.Lunch

10:20 – Departure Back to Bangkok

The van heads back toward Bangkok, with one more stop along the way.

12:00 – Final Rest Stop

A short break at a gas station for restrooms and snacks.

14:30 – Return to Bangkok

The van arrives back at Lotus’s On Nut, the same parking lot where the trip started.

Good to know: The Cambodian visa takes up a full page in your passport, so make sure you have enough space available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I extend my 60-day stamp before doing a visa run?

Yes, absolutely. I’ve done this myself three times. However, since November 2025, the rules have changed slightly. Your first extension is still granted for 30 days, but the second extension is no longer 30 days — it’s limited to just 7 days.

What should I bring for a visa run?

You don’t need much. Vans usually stop at gas stations with convenience stores, so you can buy water and snacks on the way. You also don’t need a pen — paperwork is handled at the border. For comfort, consider bringing a light jacket for the air-conditioned van and a travel pillow if you plan to sleep.
